This website is a collection of reading workshops designed to teach teachers, parents, and other educators, fun and engaging strategies for working with children in the elementary years. Topics include: oral language, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension development, using narrative and information texts. Included in the workshops are details about why, how, and when to use each instructional strategy, and pointers about differentiating instruction for children with diverse reading profiles.
The pandemic of 2020 has been an exceptionally trying time for everyone. This website is dedicated to all the children learning how to read, and the parents and teachers that support them, even when the world is working against them. The passionate BEd Teacher Candidates (Class of ’22) at Thompson Rivers University, which include the Téxw-textwt-ken re lleqmélt Cohort (“I will be a strong teacher” in Secwepemctsín), have worked extremely hard to put together this ensemble of reading strategy workshops. Enjoy the magic they have prepared!
